Keeping persistent with your academic success and goals is very important. Avoid quitting on yourself at the first signs of trouble. If you start feeling overwhelmed ask for help. . I would talk to someone about your situation and ask for advice. I would speak to a counselor and teachers for help. I would revisit the goals you set for yourself. I would break them down to small bite size goals. Get your family and friends more involved. I would change your routine around and reschedule your daily tasks. Make any compromises you have to but don’t quit.

  2. This has been my very first online course since I began attending college. Last week was also the first time I posted anything to a blog. This last week seemed like a lot of work and felt a little confused on the different taps you had to navigate to get your information. After of week of navigating through the taps and material it has gotten a little easier. I think that as I continue with my education that online courses may not be so difficult after all. It still may be too early to shout out any success just yet.

  3. Usually in my life, finding motivation can be rather trying, especially if the subjects that require motivation are not interesting to me. My new found motivation for sticking with college this time is number one being able to have pride in myself, and two, being the role-model my daughter deserves. My life is filled with many road-blocks for some reason, for instance, last semester when I tried to start school, I had literally just got home from finishing my meeting with the counselor to get a phone call from my domestic partner letting me know he had just fallen through the roof while working at the zoo, between hospitals, specialists, doctor's and previous personal commitments I was unable to start the fall semester. While I'm not expecting anymore life-altering disasters, you just never know. I have it set in my head this time that nothing will stop me, but I do believe in a higher power and firmly believe that if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans.

  4. This is my second time around here at Cuyamaca. I tried to go straight out of high school and was actually took this class on campus. I quit that semester and never completed the course, so here I am again but very excited to be taking it this time around with the actual inventor! This time I have strong goals as to where I want to end up, and once I set my mind to something there's no holding me back. This is my first time trying on-line classes so hopefully it works out better and so far, it's been pretty good. I'm very intrigued to see what the rest of this class teaches me about myself.

I consider my self a motivated person but at the same time I easily get frustrated and loose concentration, for me as well this is the second online class, I had some problems understanding the procedures I would get in read, work a little in some parts, explored, and then could not continue I had to wait for my son to explain and I'm back I plan to follow concentration in managing distractions , and be persistent to change some habits into positive habits that will lead me to success .

  6. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Well as for road blocks, seeing them as they may be, can be the central problem in most peoples lives, generally speaking. As for students believing that "roadblocks" can really exist is almost like saying you been through it all. Life has so many levels, doors, and my favorite oppurtunities to the point where it can seem overwhelming compared to where you want to end up. Keep it simple. The idea of success, which is placed up oh so high on its high chair that for most people that are captured by it, find it so attractive that they say to themselves "whats he got that I dont, it aint nothing special" or "I can do that better" which in turn, murders the point of the originality, thus replicating success creating your very first roadblock.

  7. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
The first thing , is to learn as much as possible during my college.I should begin the process of making a career decision right away. The secong thing, is to consider my abilities, values, and interests in evaluating .Also, participate in my class is important thing to show up . Moreover, I consider that I'm responsible for myself ,my courses, my study hours and my social behavior. I have to manage my time, setting limits, and managing my money .The most important thing , that I have to spend time away from studies in activities which are relaxing .if I arange what I want to accomplish and how I can accomplish it, I will be more motivated and more likely to succeed.

  8. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

The first thing I do to motivate myself is to think about what is happening in my daily life, and think about the benefits of getting a degree and becoming more educated. Being a husband and a father is my biggest motivator, knowing the effects of my education will give my family, and the influence it will have to my daughter in the future when she wants to further her education. Chapter 1 helped me narrow down why I am doing college, and gave me the motivation to continue, despite how long and tedious the process can be.

  9. If you are thinking about dropping out of college, it is important to remind yourself that years from now you will be in a better situation if you stick with it. Time will continue regardless of what choice you make, and pushing through the hard times will make things easier in the future. Roadblocks to my success would be myself, getting discouraged, and bored of sitting in a classroom. Best way to overcome is focus on a goal, and realize this is only temporary. One classmate wrote about managing your free time, and not getting sucked up into what you enjoy doing. As long as your work is done, and you feel confident in your class then you should be able to take a break.

  10. I motivate myself to be successful by keeping my goals in mind. I find that reading up on material before attending class keeps me motivated because then I can start thinking about what we will be learning for the week and once we begin the class I have a “head start” in what we will be discussing which is helpful and ultimately making me do better in the class. Thinking this way helps me become more a part of the class and not so much a spectator. I find this to make class fun and worthwhile in the long run.

  11. Having a good attitude is probably the most important trait to have because of its ties to everything else in life. Someone with a positive attitude would never even consider dropping out of college because it is not in their mindset to do so. That is why having a good attitude is so important. When it comes to staying motivated it seems that one does not need to “be” motivated if they are doing something they love to do. Just merely having an interest in a class is all that I really need because my curiosity about the class is enough. Furthermore, the end result would be a great motivating factor, due to its correlation.

Whenever I learn or heard any thing new , I tell my family once . For example, when I learn a new vocabulary, I use it when I talk to my husband , son and daughters to get familiar with, which let them be more confident in their life and don't be embarrassed embarrassed . Other classmate said that My life is filled with many road-blocks for some reason, All people have to face road- blocks in their life. 13. The mind is a very powerful thing. I believe that positive thinking can do no damage. What I have found to believe helpful in college is focusing on the end product or outcome if you will. I make goals that are achievable and let that be my motivation throughout the semester. You must know what you want and understand the steps you need to take in order to get there. Thoughts of quitting or doubt in your self will never come to a positive outcome. You must believe in yourself for optimal success.

  14. I definitely know a thing or two about obstacles and the importance of time management. I currently work 25 hours a week in La Jolla, taking 16 units, and play basketball for Grossmont cc. To say the least I have some busy days. At some points I wish I could give up, but I know what I want for my future and giving up is not an option. Like I said in my last post to be successful you must know the goals you want to reach and be willing to put in the work to achieve them. I want to be able to support myself, so I have a reliable job. I want to have a good job in the future, so I'm going to school. I also want to be able to play basketball as long as I can while I'm still young. I think I have my goals and priorities set, I just have to stay focused and determined to become successful.

  15. 4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Some roadblocks to your success might include people, income, or even personal issues. In order to overcome these problems it is best to think positive in all situations. Even when things get really bad all you can do is hope for the best. If you find yourself surrounded by negative thoughts and people then odds are you will feel bad as well. However, if you take each obstacle and make it into an accomplishment then you will feel great about yourself. Furthermore, another great way to get around these roadblocks is to talk to people who have suffered from them as well. They have experience with these issues already, ask what they did in order to get past them.

  16. 3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

In order to motivate yourself to continue, you must first ask yourself what your goals are. If you truly want to be successful and make a great income, then completing college is a huge requirement. Therefore, you would come to the conclusion that staying in college is vital. In the worst case scenario, having already dropped out of college, I personally would still ask myself what my hopes and dreams are. I would then use that list to motivate myself every day. If you do not have an idea for what you want in the future, then I don’t see any way possible to motivate yourself.

  17. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
I use rewards to stay successful. I make a deal with myself. This really helps with procrastination and getting things done. While I am studying I make a small deal like when I finish a chapter, I’ll go get some fresh air. For larger project’s, I normally reward myself with ice cream or a coffee once the project is finished. By making a deal with myself, it has held me accountable. Sometimes I don’t always keep the deal but I strive harder the next time. I stay positive and don’t let that slip up take me down a negative path. Rewarding myself has definitely helped me stay motivated each semester.

  18. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
My biggest roadblock to my success is my procrastination. I've learned to do something small and create a flow. First I just take out my pencil. I just need to get started. Once I've finished that small task I feel more alert and ready to go do the next thing. It makes starting an assignment that much easier. I also try to do the toughest task first. It eases a lot of the stress of the assignment and is a huge boost to my self-confidence for the rest of the day. Lastly I try to create fun in a task. It helps me stay interested to do and finish whatever I’m doing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Procrastination has always been my biggest roadblock. Learning the material has never been my problem. It is not reading the material in the first place. Once I sit myself down to accomplish the assignment, everything is fine. It is almost embarrassing to think about how difficult it is for me to just sit down and get working. If time starts getting tight for an assignment, I may be even more discouraged to start working. I do not known why, but I do know that is my biggest obstacle. Sitting down at the same time of day or even devoting a certain day to do my work may help. It is nice to sit down and type these things about myself. It is good to step back and look at how simple my 'biggest' problem would be to solve.

  20. If i get tempted to drop this class there is one thing that would probably motivate me to stay. This thing is money. Each class I take come out to roughly $550 a month. If I was thinking about dropping, I would also think about how I could make an extra $550. Also, my 9 year old step son is very observant. He would notice that i was not taking this class anymore. Trying to come up with a justified reason for dropping and explaining it to him is not worth it.

  21. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
To motivate myself I often picture the best possible outcome of the situation at hand. If I am taking on a large task, such as building a shed, I can think about how great it will look when its done, or how I will be able to relax afterward and not have to be stuck working on this shed all day. The project also become much easier if I can separate it out into many small and easy to complete tasks and finish them one at a time. Each one that I finish gives me something to admire and makes me more motivated to move on to the next piece

  22. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
Distraction is a common roadblock faced when working hard at something difficult. I sometimes try to use a distraction as a reward. I will break a project up into small, easy to complete bits, and when I finish each one I give myself some time to watch television or go on the internet. This method has helped me to reduce my procrastination time by turning multiple hour long distractions into short, managed distraction times spaced out over a long work period. I have found that many long school projects are quickly finished if I keep myself to this schedule.

  23. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
it is very important to think positively all the time about the aim that anyone wants to do it in his life. Being successful it’s not easy, it needs a lot of patience with all the hard periods that anyone will face it in his life. For example, finishing college or university need a lot of good thinking about the future , and at each hard final exam there is an aim to do this exam very well to pass to the next step in education and career that each one wants to reach it. Also keep thinking of how the life will change when each one could make his goal, how he/she will be proud of themselves first, then they will start looking for another success and another.

It is very important now for everyone to drop off college because the life these days all depending about education. So I need to think all the time about the best future that I will get when I will finish my college then university, how my life will change to the best when I will I will get higher wages, more respect, and get more respect to myself. I will need to keep thinking that I will get the best for myself when I will keep studying to get the best for me.

How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
I motivate myself to be successful by looking all around me. I am the first generation in my family to continue going to college. My parents didn't go to college because they had me very young. My parents aren't struggling and I thank God that we never need anything, but I also know if they had completed school and had become successful things would be different. That also pushes me to stay focus and want to finish school. I want better for my children than what I had, I don't have any children but I know have the diploma and having a successful job and career will make worlds difference. I also have young sibling and I want to be the example and the one that created the path to college.

Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

Some new ideas that I read and learned about in this chapter that everything takes time. Well I already knew that but it was a nice reminder. This journey is going to take a lot of time and effort, I will have to become better at time management. Writing things down and becoming more accountable for the goals I make either for the day or for the month. Ask questions if you don't understand. Making sure I make the time to study and start reading a little at a time. It takes time to form good habits, and when I do complete the goal it's okay to reward myself soon after my completion. I have to constantly remind myself that everything is going to take time and it will be worth every moment.

  28. To stay motivated about my studies I try stay in a mind set where I am learning something by either reading on my breaks at work. I drive for a living so it's hard to relate my studies to my job so some days I try to relate it some how. My field of study is very math intensive so some days I try to figure out what my average speed should be to get my rout done on time, or figure out the average distance I drove in a week. On a week where I haven't had much time to think of Physics I try to make a little time to read some articles relating to it. It especialy helps keep me focused on my path during winter, Spring or Summer Break.

  29. I actually dropped the in class version of this class as there was a scheduling conflict that arose at work. Before dropping I considered if there was anyway to fix my problem. I considered my options, since I couldn't ask the counselor to simply move the class to another day I talked to my work. When that failed I then considered my options which were crash another class or find the same class just another day, which lead me here. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that there's always a solution if you are persistent and stay positive and think things through.

  30. A few ways I motivate myself are looking for the good that will come out of the situation, allowing myself time with my friends (after I finish whatever it is I need to do), keeping the mindset of “I need this” and rewarding myself with leisure time. If I start thinking about dropping this class or out of college I will just remind myself how much I need it and remind myself how much better life will be because of it. One of my classmates said that if you want to succeed you can’t give up. I agree with that.

  31. A few roadblocks to my education include being lazy, people trying to get me to hang out instead of doing what I need to do, and managing my time. I can overcome being lazy by reminding myself I can be lazy later and also reminding myself how important whatever I need to is. I can overcome my friends by letting them know how important this is to me and also telling them that I will hang out later. To manage my time I’m going to get a day planner and do my best to follow through with it. These are only a few of things I’m going to have to face to continue my education.

  32. I motivate myself to be successful by looking at people who are successful at what they do because I want to be just like them and I want to be doing something good in my life. I don't want to be a failure and not enjoy my life so I just look at the positive influences and seeing how they can help me in my career. The biggest thing is just trying hard and doing the work. If you look at the assignment and think its hard and then knowing your not going to do well and then not trying, your not giving yourself an opportunity to pass. You have to ask for help instead of not doing anything.

If I think that I should drop the class, then I would be wasting a great opportunity to get an education that other people don't have and never had a chance to get. Every time I think about dropping out of a class, I think about my dreams slipping away and that gives me the motivation to work hard in everything that I do. Some roadblocks to my success is the work being too hard and too much work. I can overcome those issues by asking for help and doing the work daily instead of trying to do it all in one day.

Personally, I think about all that my mom has encourage to dream about. Or in a general sense, there are people there, other than yourself, that are rooting for you. And from that, one must understand that they need to trust and believe in themselves. I know I'm not alone in my journey in education and life. I set goals for my future since I was a child so I don't expect to fail on myself after all this hardwork. The only thing that could happen is a slight delay if I start a family or get a summer job. But I will always come back to my original goal and ddo what I must.

I motivate myself by going to class, and trying my best at everything that I put my mind to doing. If you tell yourself that you "can't" and give up without even trying it , then your obviously not motivated enough to keep going. When I see doctors, or lawyers, and see how successsful they are, it keeps me going. I want to be at the top, not at the bottom just barely getting by on a daily basis. Wanting a family keeps me motivated to keep going to school until I am satisfied with my degree. Hardwork and dedication will get me there and I know I just have to go day by day trying everything in my power to keep moving to the top.

  36. 4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
Roadblocks are the reason I am still choosing my major. It can get discouraging trying to get into a college that is completely filled to the rim with students, so only having a 4.2 GPA can get you into a college that is in your city. The over impactment of programs at colleges is just insane. Also, wanting to have fun on the weekends with my friends and being lazy about writing papers are some of my roadblocks also. A way to over come them is to get the best grades I can get to get into the college that I want to, and to do all of my work before the weekend, so I can have fun with my friends and my fiance. Once I finish school, I will have my whole life to have fun and hangout to do fun activities whenever I want.

Some roadblocks in my success are my self, my temptations, and weaknesses. Knowing what my roadblocks in life are will help me to overcome them. When approaching a situation I know is going to be hard to overcome I look back at what I have already been through the look forward to see what lies ahead. With the view of my past and future I force myself to fight whatever comes forward. It may be tough because you feel alone but there are people out there that are willing to help and have been through things you're going through. For me to overcome a roadblock I just have to remind myself what it is I want in life and if I want it bad enough to never give up. If I quit now then I'll just keep quitting every time things get rough. I would motivate myself by reminding myself of what I want and need. I don't need the ability to give up to be successful in life. I need the ability o fight through the pain. just because something is painful doesn't mean you should quit it means you should fight so you can withstand that pain. I am motivated because I don't want to be another statistic. Times are different and the people with it. So why stay in the old ways alone when time is moving by with company?

  39. If you are thinking of dropping out of college/class, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I think I have leard as much as I can from life experience work etc. I want to learn soemthing new and exciting but with that comes HARD WORK! I also remind myself this is my second time around... if I drop out and wait another 20 years I will be almost ready to retire! For me I have to manage my time wisely and set those boundaries so I do not get burnt out. I liked reading the idea of setting a work space time and STICK to it. I was actually reading on my bed ( deciding to lay down for just "a few minutes" and came across the part in Chapter 1 where a bed is for sleeping not studying. I got right back up and sat at my desk. I guess what Im trying to say is I have to dicipline myself. There is no one looking over my shoulder like in grade school. I am responsible for myself. I have to motivate myself before anything ( including rewards) can. If the thought comes to drop out,I am thankful to have a wonderful support system at home. My husband and kids know me and are great at helping. My kids are the best motivation next to myself. I want to show them by example not only talk. I always tell them you can do whatever you want, and what better way then to accomplish soemthing mom has been talking about for at least the last two years! Enough talk , time for action. One of my motivating sayings! I also am not one to start something and not finish and I believe its worked for me so far.

  40. I motivate myself everyday by staying positive about what task I am doing. When things get hard, it is easy to just give up and do something else, but being able to stay positive and tell yourself that you can do it will make it a lot easier. Also, I look at my family and know that they stand behind me and believe I can do anything I set my mind to. That also motivates me knowing that I'm not the only person that believes in myself.

  41. A lot of peoples response to having roadblocks will be either being lazy or being able to give up easily. It's easy to become uninterested in a task that needs to be completed or a task that has been too difficult for you to handle. A lot of people don't like to deal with the pressure of doing something they are not able to finish. Self motivation is probably the most hardest thing to give yourself when it seems like you can't do it, but once you start believing in yourself, it's very easy to accomplish anything you want. I just tell myself that if I mess up, to try again until I get it right.

  42. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
I try to motivate myself by having goals at the beginning of the semester to try and keep me on track. Sometimes it's difficult to keep these goals, but you need to keep positive and trust that you will be able to make it. In chapter 1, There are many great ideas to motivate one's self. I believe the most powerful motivator presented in chapter 1 is to find something that interests you in the class. It will make the work done in that class more enjoyable and can become intrinsically motivating if it interests you enough.

Along with many other reasons for staying in school, the strongest reason, for me, would be that everything that i want to do needs some form of college education. Without a college education, i couldn't do any of the things that i want to do for a career. Also, another motivator is money. I wouldn't be able afford much without a college degree. One of my current roadblocks is not being interested in some classes. While some classes I find enjoyable, if it doesn't pertain directly to my major, i can lose interest in the class, usually at the deficit of my grade. After my second year of college, i started making better efforts to keep up in my general ed classes.

  43. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
Well when I am dealing with school, the way I motivate myself to be successful is very simple. I know that without getting my work done, whether it’s my work for my job, or even being successful with my schoolwork, I have to finish everything to get anywhere in life. My biggest motivation is knowing that soon in life I will be able to accomplish all of my goals, especially in my schooling so I will be able to create a career for myself and more importantly knowing that I will be able to be a supporter for myself, my family, and anyone else that is so dependent on me.

  44. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
The biggest road block to my success is juggling work, school and family and trying to work in time for everything. The way I have been doing it lately is trying to schedule everything into a calendar and making sure I get to everything and trying to leave time for emergencies. I have had a few times when I couldn’t stick to my schedule and it was a big problem trying to catch up and it was just a big hassle. All and all if I stick to my schedule, I wont have any problems with roadblocks to my success.

  45. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
I work hard on my self to improve my personality better to benefit the society for better tomorrow. I educate my self through reading, writing, and speaking just like communicating well with people in all of the kinds of communication. I am very curious about everything around me including my life I want to know everything I seek information I ask to have a better idea always. I find out communication is very important for people's life and it can benefit us physically, financially, and emotionally. Communication is everything for me and through it I can know about how my future is going to look like. For example, communicating well with counselors to know about the various of majors and what's good and bad. Also, making friends is very important to be around people to get the advice when we need it and have better opportunity for the future. I consider that motivations for better future and even better career. I motivate my self by sleeping early and waking up early, and join some educational activities that works on my personal improvement to succeed. Exercising on free-time can be very good for self releasing and relaxing mind to think better. rewarding self for vacation or restaurants or can be anything nice that we can do to be happy.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?
I found out being around friends in college make a lot different because good friends can influence the person being better educator. Also I encourage each one of us for self rewarding when everything sets successfully. There are a lot of activities we can join to improve our personal life to get rid of the problems and headaches. I would say don't give up whatever are the circumstances and consequences just stay optimistic and strong can easily pass the hard storms very easy.
