  1. This semester is going really well. I didn't overwhelm myself with units, because I also work full-time and did not want to get bad grades. Even if it takes me twice as long to finish school, at least I will have the grades to get me into the college that I want to get into. The challenging part is finding time during the week to do my homework at home. I often finish my work on my lunch break or on my breaks. I get way too distracted at home, but am too exhausted after work to go to the library to finish my homework. I just tell myself that it's only temporary and to push myself a little to finish all of my assignments on time, and it will all be worth it in the end.

    1. I am in the same boat! I agree with you on it doesnt matter how long it take, getting good grades is better than doing it in 4 years and getting bad grades. I too am struggling with finding enough time through out the week to get all the work I need to get done. I find myself waking up early on saturday and sundays to start homework and dont finish until I leave for work at 4pm. It is rough but I rather do it now and get it out of the way than wait till Im older and have a family. Like you said it is just temporary.

    2. Your hard work will pay off in the end. I know it is hard to work and go to school, but you are being successful in doing both.

  2. The employment trends have a lot to do with technology and computer science. A computer science degree requires an extensive amount of Math classes and computer based classes. I am not that great in Math, so these degrees might be a struggle for me, good thing they offer tutoring. A lot of companies are already outsourcing many of their positions so that is something to think about when choosing a major, because you might not have any work after you get your degree.

Knowing how to be successful in an interview, will help you to get the job that you want. First thing, before the interview, it is important to research both the company and the job. Also, he should know if the information for the job is really the one that he want,. Second thing, dress simple clothes, with no much jewelry and cover any tattoo if he has. Third thing , introduce yourself with smile and shack hands with the interviewer .Moreover, be relax during the interview, and maintain eye connect with the interviewer and sit straight . After the interview, write a thank-you note and express your interest in the job.

  4. This semester is going good for me , and I’m so excited with my classes. For this semester I chose health education class which is the main class for my major and ESL 106 R , which I like this class for helping me reading books and to know more vocabularies, which help me to improve my English as well. I didn't stack myself with much units, because I have much responsibilities for my family and I’m anxious to get high grades, which I used to on previous semesters . There were no challenging part this semester, I try to do my homework on time, and sometimes I go to the library to do my homework and get help from the tutor center for checking my assignments.

  5. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

There are many challenges and road blocks that I am going through this semester. Among anything, it would definitely be the fact I don't have a car and license or a bus pass. My only income is babysitting which is around $100 a month. Getting books was definitely hard and I still need one more book even at this point. Other than that, I have just recently moved from my parents cuz of a toxic environment but I live with my boyfriend's family with one of my brothers. I am able to depend on babysitting money and my boyfriend helping out. After moving out, my parents have been learning more about how they should be dealing with their emotions and anger. Although, along with that, my parents are learning to finally how to take care of older children. I've been talking to them and still going back to take care of small things that make them know I still care.

The major I am focusing on is English-single subject. Overall, the first point is that its an impacted major that requires:
    a. Completing with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a grade of C or higher: Rhetoric and Writing Studies 100, 200; Communication 103; English 220or Comparative Literature 270A or 270B; Journalism and Media Studies 200; Humanities 140; Linguistics 101; six units from English 250A and 250B or English 260A and 260B; English 280. These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);
Then, I need a GPA cumulative of 2.40.
I need an Eng 120, college composition and reading, Eng 124, Comm 122 Public speaking, Eng 122 intro to lit, Mcom 110 Mass Media and Society, Eng 215 Mythology, Eng 118 Linguistics and English, Eng 231 and 232, and Eng 126 Creative righting. And Competency is required in one foreign language to fulfill graduation requirements for this major.

  6. This semester is quite difficult to be honest. I took on classes that I knew would require a good amount of work but I wasnt ready for all the busy work on top of it as well. I am taking accounting 120, English 124, counseling 120, and Asl 2. Besides sign language each class has required homework due each week if not multiple, along with an extra assignment on top of that. i am currently working 25 hours a week as well and I am finding a hard time being able to get all my work done. I am trying to schedule and plan the times I can apply to study time each week but it leaves no time for anything else.

    1. Kaila, sounds like you have your plate full. I can relate to your situation i am not taking as many classes as you, i have 2 classes plus a lab and working 35 hours a week. It would have been 3 classes and the lab but i had to realize that it was way to much work for me, so i dropped one. Its so hard to find the time to study, do homework , and have a little me time. I think thats what being a college student is all about, sadly. I hope everything gets easier as the semester goes on. For me it has but it is still hard to find time, Good luck and hope you get the grades you want and deserve.

  7. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important
I would will tell my friend be prepared. Always look the part, people will judge you on the clothes that you wear, so look nice. start getting ready 2 hours before you have to go in, give yourself lots of time. If your rushed your appearance is going to show. Research the company that your applying for, and when they ask why do you want to work for us, answer with one of the reasons that they founded the company. It will definitely show that you took the time and you are very interested. Have a mock interview, for the most part many companies will have the same questions. Make sure you keep eye contact, shake their hand before and after the interview, give a firm one, no one likes a floppy hand it doesn't look confident. Remember to bring your resume and cover, even if you submitted it online have a hard copy as well. Smile and have a good time, the person that is interviewing you will pick up if they see that you nervous, depending on the position that alone will not get you the job. Follow up with a thank you note, they will appreciate it and they will think of you again.

    1. Yeah I agree, also I would say being honest and trusting yourself that you can have an authentic conversation with the person that is interviewing you. If you can be honest with your answers there is really nothing to be worried about, the person interviewing you was in a spot just like you and they most likely understand the pressures of getting a job. Looking presentable is just as important also, you should want to dress nice all the time, not just when you think you are expected to. You should want to dress nice because you want to, not because of what someone else wants, in my opinion.

  8. The semester is going well for me so far. I am keeping up with the work load and I am getting assignments in on time. There is always a lot going on outside of school that can make getting assignments done more difficult because sometimes there just isn't enough time to get everything done the way I may want it. I think that it is important to keep my priorities in check because I don’t want to get behind. For me it is important to be balanced and to keep things in perspective, working hard right now will hopefully yield better results for me in the future.

  9. This semester has been difficult at best. My courses all have a heavy work load. My most difficult subject is Algebra. Apart from me having difficulty in the class, the instructor isn’t very clear. He rambles on different tangents. When he does get back on track his explanations are to quick. In the next few weeks I’m also scheduled to have two tests for other classes that will take valuable study time from my current schedule. My plan is to schedule study times in small manageable blocks of time. I also have to talk to my Algebra instructor on my class work. I also have to prioritize my work and schedule some free time so the stress levels come down.

    1. Have you tried a tutor on campus? Most of the time they have perfected the easiest ways to understand the subject. I believe that there are tutors specifically for Algebra. Sometimes they even have flyers in the classes.
I also find it helpful when I study for exams to use a whole weekend for the major studying part and follow up throughout the week. Especially when I have two, I use Friday for one subject and Saturday for the other. Then on Sunday I do a refresher with my notes and relax for the rest of the evening. However this isn’t a cram session, you have to be consistently studying in order to keep stress down and efficiently learn the information. If you love the outdoors, just a few hours observing nature by yourself can be a huge stress relief. I enjoy going to mission trails and walking along the paved trail. There is enough foot traffic that you can safely take a de-stress walk.

  10. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

I've come to terms that challenges and roadblocks are inevitable regardless of school or daily life. So handling them accordingly and not getting stressed over the situation, which will ultimately make the situation worse. So far the semester has been well, typical homework load, professors who do not click well with my learning style and the usual not putting enough time into studying. But as with most things in life, it is a easy fix and just had to make minor adjustments. Understanding how much time and studying is needed for the different classes. Have to put aside more time from leisure into certain classes and understanding the key points the professor is making and to take notes. This class has been beneficial in understanding what works best for me studying and learning wise, and using what I have learned in this class, has helped me with the rest of the classes.

What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

Tips I would give to my friend before being interviewed would be to have a good understanding of what the job you are taking is, and ask good questions about what they look for in your job title, and what has others done to stand out. Ask about the company as whole and get an understanding of how they do their business, and to see if you will fit into that place of employment. Make sure you are dressed appropriately and clean cut. You want to sell yourself to employer, so be confident and be prepared to answer questions. From my prior military experience, you want to stand out, be confident, and be presentable. You only get one first impression, so don't ruin it.

  11. This semester is going really well for me. I am taking 11 units so I have a packed schedule. I have had to battle with procrastination a little, but I have been able to get back on track. I visited the counselor to start my educational plan and we figured out that I am a lot closer to transferring than I thought. I was really shocked but also excited. Finding that out has given me a huge boost of confidence and helped me push past the procrastination. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed the past few weeks because 11 units are the most I’ve taken and I’m still getting adjusted. I’ve made a calendar to try to balance my studying better and it has been helping. Overall this has been the best semester of my college career.

  12. This semester is going really well for me so far. I have done all the work from all of my classes and the work is not overwhelming. I understand the work I am doing and I have not had a lot troubles doing with the work. I have not been to a tutoring class so far. I will probably start going to tutorial when I start taking math classes because thats the most difficult subject for me. I am taking 12 units so I do work every day but its not hard. I expect the work to get harder later in the semester.

  13. Tips I would give to a friend before being interviewed for a job are being prepared and dressing appropriately. I would tell my friend to research the job and practice being interviewed. Know your strengths and if they ask for what are your weaknesses, keep it positive. Know what questions you will be ask and have good answers. I would tell my friend to relax and don't be nervous. Dress professional for the job and take a shower before the interview. Have a firm handshake and always keep eye contact. When you talk be clear and explain to them why your the right man for the job.

This semester is going quiet well for me. In contrast to a few of my previous semesters, I have great teachers this time around. They are passionate about their work and it makes class very enjoyable. Furthermore, I have made a handful of friends which also makes class entertaining. Most importantly, it is my last semester at a Junior College. Within the past week, I just got news that I got accepted into the 4 year university which I applied to. This news has made me extremely excited and happy to finish off this semester. I am completely dedicated to school.

  15. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

The best advice I can give to a friend in terms of a job interview would be my own experiences. I am able to tell them what worked for me and what didn’t work. For example, I would tell them about resumes and interview questions. Furthermore, if I do not have experience in their desired field of work, I can simply refer them to the internet. The internet is an incredible tool which should always be utilized. It has tons of scientific research and data which supports a huge variety of topics.

  16. First impressions count! Show your interviewer that you want the job, are willing to work hard and will do your best. Always prepare before your interview appointment. Make sure you’re on time, give the interviewer a good strong handshake, don’t slouch or interrupt, be polite. Again first impressions count! Think about what to wear. Remember to always wear something clean, you don’t want to wear something which makes people focus more on what you’re wearing, than what you are saying. If you have tattoos you might want to cover them if you can. Some employers may not like tattoos or have an office regulation. Don’t say anything bad about your previous boss. Last but not least send a thank-you note.

  17. So far this semester has been going both good and bad. This is my first semester back in seven years and so far I'm doing really well in my on-line classes, but due to a very personal, fragile life situation I'm having a rough time in my campus classes, I have a business midterm that I know I'm absolutely failing tomorrow. Once I set my mind to something though, failure is not an option. I'm going to find a way to fix my schedule to ensure I'm getting quality study time for my on-campus classes as well.

  18. The advice I would have to give a friend before an interview would have to be to try and relax. try to believe that everything happens for a reason and if this job is meant to be yours then it will, if not a better one will come along. I think if you're relaxed in an interview you have a better chance of connecting with the employer. There's lots of competition out there these days but finding a way to relate the interviewer always gives you a better chance of getting a call back!

  19. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This semester has gone about as well as I expected. I decided to take four classes this semester. Three are in person and I have this class online. During the first 5 weeks of the semester I continued to work full time. Until I received my GI Bill payments, I knew I was going to have to work full time. I had absolutely no free time. Between work, school, and my wife and kids all of my time was consumed. So much time, that I did not have enough time to put towards my studies. I found on most nights, I would spend more time on my kids homework than my own. Luckily my math class was easier than I had hoped, but my biology class is way more difficult than I expected. Procrastination was hurting me in this class. Not sitting down the second I had free time was killing me. I need to take advantage of any free time I may have for this class. Now that I have about 15-20 hours less per week at work, I should be able to find a lot more time for this class.

Tips for a friend interviewing for a very important job
Before you go to the job interview investigate everything possible about the company, that way when answering questions you sound knowledgeable and interested in being part of the group, at the same time you learn more about the company and decide if the company is good fit for you.
I have experienced in the past that having an extra hard copy of your own resume comes in handy, one time I went to an interview and the manager, nor her assistant could find my resume, and this made me a little nervous.
Dress code is very important the first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one.
The interviewer will base an opinion on how you look and what your wearing, try your best to wear professional attire, even if you think the Job you are applying for does not require professional clothing, always look your best to make a good impression, best colors to wear are navy blue or dark gray.
Answer questions honestly, make eye contact, do not play with your hair sit up straight, and feel secure or yourself.
If you have questions leave your questions at the end of the interview
Shake hands when entering the room and when leaving
    Be yourself!

  21. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

I would first ask my friend to tell me why they wanted the job. This is supposedly a job that is 'really important', so there should be a pretty decent answer. If simply explaining why they wanted the job was difficult, maybe it is not the job for them. I think that speaking about why the job was important would help my friend with the confidence to be asked questions by the interviewer. I believe confidence is the most important quality one can have during an interview. Hopefully my friend would not have to be reminded to dress properly for the interview that was 'really important'.

  22. Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?

This semester so far has been progressing very well. I think that in this class I have learned quite a lot about myself. I now understand my personality type and how it applies to my future decisions and career. I understand my types of intelligence and my favorite learning methods. And just recently I have been reading about job qualities and how to go about looking for employment. In my other classes I have been doing quite well and have high grades in all. Currently I am not having any major difficulties in my studies, but I foresee some possible problems with one of my midterms. I need to deeply study the material in my political science class to help me write my two midterm essays. I do not like writing and find that I am not too proficient at it. I am very worried that I will not do well. However, both my logic and music classes are easy to understand and I feel relaxed and confident about their midterms. I think that I am prepared for the rest of this semester and that I will be able to maintain my high grades in a majority of my classes.

This semester has been very fun for me! This is my first semester for college for me and it is going really well. The only problem I have ever had in college is that one of my teachers teaches us like we are first graders. I hate being treated that way and it give me a huge head ache all day. I have learned to get by this huge head ache of mine when I block out how the teaching is effecting me. I just don't worry about it anymore and do what she asks of me.

This semester I am trying to do my best to get high grades in all my classes to be able to transfer to a university , so I am full time student and working as a part time job during the weekend. The challenges I am facing are I don't have too much time to study at the weekend, so I am doing my best to study and be ready for all the assignments and homework during the weekdays. I am dealing with this hard situation by deciding my time during the weekdays and some times after work to do all the required assignments and home work .

  25. What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?

If my friend was interviewing for a job I would give them the best advice I can. I would tell them exactly how I would do it. I would walk into the office or where ever the interview was taking place with a purpose. I will always be smiling and be confident when I speak. I would go give the interviewer a hand shake. If the interviewer is a male the hand shake will be nice and firm. If the interviewer is a female I would give her a firm but not enough to crush her hand. I would say be very confident as if you are walking in knowing that they already are giving you the job.

  27. This semester is pretty hard for me. My work doesn't have a schedule so I'm at the mercy of my dispatcher. I also took on an extra class because it was 2 credits. The class is actually more work than all of my other classes and sometimes the teacher is hard to understand and because of the work load I feel my other classes are suffering. I'm adjusting to it though. I've learned to slow down when reading what my professor posts. I also use a text to speech program to read to me while I read and I'm finding I can understand it better. I need to manage my time better while at home so I can get my work done. Do it earlier so I can be done with it. I've also learned that any moment I get alone is time to do homework. I drive for a living so when I get back to the shop I'll break out my books and spend an hour before I go home reading as it's always quiet there. Next semester I don't think I will take the extra class and just take my time.

  28. I think millennials will drastically affect the career and political landscape. Right now what we are seeing is that allot of politicians don't necessarily understand some of the emerging technology and it's implications. As we grow to fill the positions I think there will be a change in the way technology and the legislation that will come with it will change allowing for greater freedom or regulation. We will probably see a greater need for internet security paving the way for better programmers and simpler programing languages as well as more efficient and more powerful computer hardware. I think there will also be a shift toward automation in factories and warehousing. bureaucracy might make a move into automation as it moves into computers. We are seeing this now here at school with web Advisor. I think we are going to lay the infrastructure down for technology to make some aspects of life more efficient. A trip to the DMV might mean you have to go to your computer to renew your license.

this semester is a little bumpy because of my psych class and my late night job. other than that everything else is going great. i have income and i have enough time on my hands to just take care of my homework and enough time to enjoy some rest and relaxation. some of the challenges are with work and school. sometimes i have to work late and it kinda exhausts me when i over work myself. dealing with these problems are just to try my best to balance my readings with my free time. i enjoy reading my psych book because i want to learn about the basis on how people think and learn how the brain operates. Dealing with these is not too bad because i see it as leisure readings.

This is the hardest semester for me because I am taking a lot of classes and they're the hardest classes I've ever seen excluding counseling 120. I am taking physics and this class is very hard it requires me putting super effort to get over it because it has online, book, and labs homework it's taking the most from my time and it has all math and equations has to be understand it and then solve it. physics is very complicated I am having a lot of obstacles with it. Also I am taking Health Education. Health is very complicated also and it has many studies has to be done clearly. I am taking some more classes and I am working part-time to help me pay my expenses and afford for my living for now. The most obstacles that I am facing are school with working they never ever come along because each direction has its own task and time and it requires me to focus on each one and sometimes it's hard to keep up with it.

What tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?
I would like to advice my friends or anyone when they go for interview, I encourage you to practice before couple days over and over because you have to be appear confident and answer the questions that have to be answered for your beneficial. Also review the position requirements clearly and when you go for interview just say the responsibilities that you did in the past jobs similar to the new job responsibilities. Be aware to speak good English not the street one. The English that we talk in Education is better to persuade people to hire you. Appearance is very important charismatic works all the time, so you have to be dressed good to surprise people of your character.

  31. The interview tips that I would give to a friend would be to do prep beforehand, answer all questions completely, bring a notepad, ask what the next steps are at the end of an interview, and also ask if they have questions or concerns regarding your resume. Answer all questions: sometimes people trail off or go on a tangent and it is important to completely answer the question asked. If you don’t know the answer, it is better to say you don’t know than to make something up. Bring a notepad: ask beforehand if it is alright that you have your notes, and take notes during the interview. It is good to write down things like the person’s name (since that can be easy to forget). Ask about the next steps: you want to ask the interviewer what will come next following the interview. This shows that you are interested in the job and are proactive in taking the required next steps. Find out when and how they will contact you and let them know you enjoyed the interview and will be available to start very soon if they decide to hire you. Ask if they have questions/concerns about resume: this ensures that if there was anything that might have been misunderstood, you can clear it up with them immediately. For example, if they see in your resume that you live far away, they may decide to not choose you based on this. But if you bring this up, you will have the chance to let them know that you are planning to relocate.

  32. This semester was going pretty well for me so far but I didn't have the easiest time focusing on my school work. I found myself really distracted with other things such as work, family, friends, and other activities that seemed to always get in the way. I am really dedicated to my family and friends, along with church where I am a Saturday School Teacher, and I also lead a middle school youth group on Friday nights. Having so many different activities actually leaves me with not being able to stay that in tact with my school work and I unfortunately end up putting my other things above my school. I haven't had the right drive to do my studies and it has become a horrible habit that I have started to portray upon myself. I am not motivated to do anything, and I always wait until the last minute where I then stress myself out and don't do as good as I know I would have if I had gotten started early. I'm not sure what I can really do to push myself and become stronger with what is necessary in my school life, but I really hope I get out of this phase really soon.
